Handyman in London
“I live with a man who refuses to use a screwdriver, so I can’t live without the Handy Squad!”
(Nicola Formby, Tatler)
“Handy Squad are the answer to everyone's prayers, especially to the DIY challenged like myself. The wonderful Ernest has fitted baby gates, helped me lug desks across London, and fixed things that would have otherwise sat untouched. They're also efficient, reliable, trustworthy, well-priced and deeply friendly. I could not recommend them enough.”
(Tom Parker Bowles, Food Journalist)
“Fantastic for those jobs which you know you ought to get done, but don’t get time to do. The handymen are exceptionally conscientious and are always extremely polite and helpful. The service is invaluable!”
(Loyd Grossman, TV Presenter)
“The service was great, Bill was lovely and although I gave him an endless list that I thought he would never finish he did and I had to think up more.”
(Samantha Cameron, Prime Minister's Wife)
“The Handy Squad regularly help out our clients, and we get great feedback. When we send out the Handy Squad, we know our clients are in safe hands.”

Book and Learn : Repairing walls

Walls pick up cuts and bruises frequently. Whether it's a hole left by a picture hook, a dent from a doorknob or just a hairline crack in the plaster; this guide will allow you to restore your walls to good health.

Tools & materials required
  • Decorator's knife
  • Quick-drying polyfilla (or equivalent filler)
  • 150-grit sandpaper
  • Dust sheet
Instructions
  1. Lay dust sheet under where you are working (a few seconds preparation can save many minutes cleaning up)
  2. Scrape away any loose paint or plaster from the area needing repair (you can use a table knife at a pinch but a decorator's knife is not expensive)
  3. Apply a small amount of quick-drying filler (polyfilla or equivalent) to the hole using a decorator's knife
  4. For holes more than a few mm deep, for a quick fix you can first fill the hole with damp newspaper before applying filler on top
  5. Wait for the filler to dry (this should take 15-20 mins for quick-drying polyfilla) - the deeper the area you have filled, the longer the filler will take to dry
  6. Lightly sand the area with 150-grit sandpaper (the higher the grit the finer the paper)
  7. Wipe away the dust residue with a damp cloth
  8. Paint over the area
